SPECTATE

Chicago Grit is a 10-day series of crit races set in and around Chicagoland. Our goal is to be a community event first, and a bike race second. What we mean by this is our hope is to draw in people from the community to enjoy the sport, be inspired, and get connected with the community which so graciously hosts us.

Each day at Chicago Grit is a fresh adventure: carnivals, business expos, food truck feasts, BMX stunts, and more. It’s fun for the entire family – even if you know nothing about bike racing!

WHAT IS A CRIT RACE?

Chicago Grit races are all criterium (or crit) races. Crit races are bike races set on closed circuit courses, typically less than 1 mile. They are often run in the middle of town, which allows these races to draw in large crowds of people, vying to watch cyclists rip around the course. Because the course is short, spectators are able to witness near non-stop action throughout the race, which typically lasts between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours.
America has often been deemed the “gold standard” for crit races, which is why/how we attract international talent. Chicago Grit is the largest crit series with respect to entries and has, for several years, featured highly competitive races – from Novice to Pro, and everything in between.
